Floresta da Tijuca (Tijuca Forest)

Tijuca Forest is considered the biggest urban forest in the world. Located in the center of town, it is the heart and lungs of the city of Rio.

Tijuca Peak is the highest summit in the city with an altitude of 3805 feet. On its northwest face there are some very beautiful routes—all about four pitches long—including the beautiful Magia Vertical route (Vertical Magic) between 5.7 and 5.11d grade.

One of the main sport climbing areas in Rio is Campo Escola 2000. Hidden under the shade of the forest, it is a great climbing crag especially during the hot summer months. Campo Escola 2000 has gear-free routes maxing at 75 feet with most of its ascents ranging between 5.11d and 5.12b, including Coquetel de Energia (Energy Cocktail), which, though gear-free, still offers an extremely challenging climb and a real work out.
